So im having trouble figuring out how to decode the serial number. The first letter or number appears to not have been put on proper? So it just looks like a tear drop. Anyways if anyone can decode this for me thanks. Also places to get parts. The washers on the connecting rod broke, and got thrown up to the piston which froze the engine. Think the cylinder can be saved but piston and rings and those washers are goners. And i have no idea how to check the bearings or seals so im probably going to just leave them even tho this thing is probably 60 years old, and hope for the best. Anyways i have to say these copper oil lines on these old saws just make them look so unique. Im surprized these things arnt valued at $1k these days. I have some newer saws that feel like they will fall apart just trying to start them. ibb.co/64CMsvC

I have an XL12 SN 44525037 red/black the tag is metal. If you decode the SN it was built on line 4 - 1974 - 525th day - 37th of the day. Am I decoding it wrong?

I have also trouble decoding the serial number of my 2 homeline 12 automatic chainsaws. Can anyone help? The one with the yellow serial number I cannot figure out 04587976? The second one: T83260292: I think from the posts before it is 8:1978, 326:day 326, 0292: unit 0292 built that day Is this correct? The one with the yellow serial number seems much older.

New on here and thrilled this exists. I just picked up a 7 digit blue homelite XL-12 from an old timer faller/ collector here in BC Canada… would anyone be able to help me pinpoint the year if was made? 1664630 Ps. not sure if this helps but it does say “Terry” on the bottom of the tag which I feel means it was made here in Canada? Thanks for any help anyone can provide… she’s a little beauty and fired up with a fresh tank of fuel. 🔥💪🏼

I was doing my do diligence, following Leon's (great website by the way) advice on how to use this forum, but, when I open the DSM 717 or Tech Service Memo, I only get the first page to show up, I can not scroll thru the many pages of either of them. any hints? has this option been taken away since Leon's video was made or might I have something set wrong on my computer, making pages not show. only the cover page shows for me.

Good Morning! I'm hoping to help my Dad ID the approximate manufacture year of his EZ chain saw. On the metal tag it reads - Type as 10100 and the SN is L0120858. Here is a photo of the tag. It appears to be in lovely condition and is blue. Thank you for your time! Attachments:
