I just picked up a SXL-923 on FB Marketplace for $70.The seller says the "draw string is broke".I take that to mean that the recoil rope is broke. Also, the"chain crank moves".I take that to mean that the saw isn't seized.I asked him if the saw had spark,he told me "yes,it has a spark plug".He told me the handle was broke.I looked the pics over pretty good & didn't see a broken handle anywhere. Then he sent me a pic with the handle mount circled. When I get the saw I'll post some pics & give an update of it's condition, but I'll have to replace the draw string first thing.Lol Ed

Looking forward to seeing more!
I've always preferred twist ties over drawstrings anyway lol

Since I don't have an IPL I can only say this from what I see on Leon's site. The 922 was a SXL,then the 921,923,& 924 were just XL's.I don't know what criteria the saw had to meet to be classified ass a "Super".I'd think that the 923 came after the 922.IMHO they're all SXL's. Ed

The only IPL's I have for the 923 are the "XL" variety. I'm not sure on the timing of introduction, the the 922 was produced into the 80's, well past the 921-924 run. No matter though...Ed you are going to thoroughly enjoy the 923!

As promised, here are a couple of pics so you can get a general idea as to what I'll need for this old girl. The first thing I did,as was taught to me by my friend Bob Johnson, was to pull the muffler & have a look at the P&C.It looked real good with no scoring on either.Next I pulled the recoil cover to have a look in there.Other than having a little more than an 1/8 in.plus of oil & dirt,it wasn't bad.Of course with no "draw string" I can't get the cover back on.Lol It'll need a new fuel line & filter,a new drive case cover (or a good used one),& a new decompression lever. The decomp valve works & so does the manual oiler. The seller shipped the saw with old, stale gas in it & it leaked all over the box it was in,oil was in it too.My mail carrier didn't appreciate it & I can't blame her.The chain is like new & bar is in good shape. It also needs the bar mount & possibly a new front handle.I don't think the saw has cut that much wood & is in remarkably good shape for it's age. My saw doesn't have a UT #,it has a Model # & it's XL-923,serial # 12164385.I'm having a heck of a time trying to find the correct handle mount for it & also the decompression lever. When I do find a part # & try to look it up on Leon's store site it brings up nothing.Apparently the part #'s have changed. It could easily be that I don't have it in stock...there's been a surge of interest in that saw family the past 4-5 years and parts don't hang around for long.

Here or somewhere else? Rope should be the same as a SXL925 which is 48 inches.

Here's what's going on with the XL-923.I put the recoil on today & checked for spark,it has spark. Then like a fool,I put some fuel in the plug hole & thought I could get it to fire.Since there was no decomp valve working it just about yanked the grip out of my hand. It's got some really good compression.I took a pic of the lever & it seems to be missing something because when I depress the throttle lock the decomp lever moves, but I don't see how it's supposed to depress the decomp valve. Picture isn't very clear, but it looks like the tap is missing from the decomp lever

Yeah, the one on Ebay looks like it'd break after I used it about 3 times.I'm thinking of taking the lever off & brazing a section on that'll last, rather than pay the ridiculous prices that people want for these levers & have it break again.

Ed the part you requested i asked $5 dollar shipped...far from ridicoulous pricing. I have not had a lot of problems with the factory decomp levers...scott
