Hey everybody, im super excited about getting a new homelite! this one is supposed to be a 1050 of some sort. based on the pictures he has sent me the UT is 10139A. The serial is 4E122021. IF anyone can ID the UT number and confirm what model it is that would be super! Anyhow, he claims the saw needs a piston and cylinder and crank seals. His reasoning is it lost compression due to an air leak. The deal was sweet enough I wasnt really asking too many questions, as he is throwing in a known good P&C and 2 .404 bars. I'll get some pictures he sent me thrown up soon, but I had to post!

Yup, I recognize that UT number. The Super 1050 was a bonus that came along with the XP1130 I purchased this last fall. Keep us abreast of your rebuild. Have fun.

So here are some pictures he sent me. Its currently in the mail and should arrive tomorrow. In thinking about this, I have some questions. Can these saws be updated to later ignition? For example: a super xl coil and flywheel? He claimed it lost compression from an air leak, are there other causes or problems i ought to be considering? Since I am pulling the cylinder, i want to do a base gasket delete for a smidge more compression. Anybody have an opinion on that? I'll use the proper sealant in it's place but I havent done a BGD before. Last one: are there any other updates or repairs I should do while the saw is halfway apart? I plan to do crank seals at least and pressure/vacuum test the crankcase once it gets here. He didnt show some of the other components I wanted, like clutch, sprocket, etc. It is coming with .404 bars, does anyone have suggestions on where to buy rim drive sprockets for one of these?

S1050’s only came with points ignitions, they never had a electronic ignition.

the starter look like it came from an older C series. it had a metal tag riveted on which is off now, don't think the this starter is from a 1050. if it was a good deal, hope it comes with all the parts and doesn't cost a lot to get going.

Im not one to reveal to much about the deal, but i paid about what most people would pay for a decent super xl, and it came with two of those. Good catch on the starter, although I was under the presumption that they shared the same parts. He claimed its all there and needs seals and assembly. Does anyone have a link for crank seals? I've never done them and looking through the IPL has me confused as to what I thought I needed.

Did you receive the saw, does it have all the parts? Its supposed to be here today. he offered the saw to me awhile back, really good deal, but i already had one and i didt want to take the chance of tracking down missing or broken pieces for a saw that had parts from other saws on it. good luck

So I got the saw today. Apart from needing the entire ignition system, sprocket bearings, and plenty of other small things, this is what the cylinder did. Fortunately it did come with a good one

okay. So I have had some time to sort through what came in the box and find out what I need. The saw is missing the entire ignition system, so I need to source all of that. It also needs the bearing and race for the sprocket drum. the top of the carb is taken off for some reason, and I havent found the screws for it. Fortunately I have 2 walboro sdc carbs and several known good Zama c2 carbs from super xls. Would there be an issue in running a different carb on it? The extra piston and cylinder seem to be in good condition, so my plan is to clean everything up and get all of the junk off, do a proper pressure test on the crankcase to determine if there actually are any leaks. Then it's a matter of sourcing points, although I may take the set up off my working c51. Id rather have this running than the c51. Beyond that, its assembly and fuel lines.

Not that it probably matters now, but I would bet the saw was run with the two cylinder studs on the unbroken side loose.
I suppose you might want to check to see if they are properly secured in the crankcase...

You mentioned about using a different carb than what came on the saw originally. You'd need to check to see if the venturi in the carbs are the same size.If you undersize the carb (venturi) then you're going to have problems with the saw either not being able to rev up properly,or the saw just won't have the power it should. The Zama C2S was made for a 60 cc saw, same with the Walbro HBD. Your saw should have a Walbro SDC60 carb. If it is missing parts, like a cover, you can use one from another SDC carb, but you don’t want to use a carb from a smaller saw.
