Well if that's the case, then all the lube in the world isn't going to do a thing as far as getting the piston out.

That's the point of the acetone, it will dissolve the carbon and crud, the ATF then soaks in to lube things and allows the junk to float out. Acetone by itself would dry very dry, washing away any oil present, then you would really be stuck.

I guess I can chalk this one up as a loss.Earlier today I was working in the garage & accidently knocked the Xp-1000 off the workbench onto the floor. At first I thought it was OK,but while looking for something else I found part of a handle laying on the floor.I knew right away that it came from the XP-1000.Obviously I was pissed, but that's what happens when a blind man tries to do stuff that he probably shouldn't.Too bad too,the cylinder was getting nice & loose too.I guess I've got parts for feebay now.

I thought I'd posdted this earlier, but anyway - I had an accident in the garage earlier this week & knocked my XP-1000 off the workbench. The result was a broken throttle handle.Needless to say,I was pissed, but that'sd what happens when a blind man tries to do stuff he probably shouldn't. 20180204_121138 by edju1958, on Flickr

Where did you find that Mike?I've been in contact with Calvin Meadows who owns CM Small Engine parts,he said that it's available at Leon's.I looked in Leon's store site & didn't see anything.I also contacted Leon about it,but I haven't heard back from him yet.

Yeah, upon further examination there was more damage than I thought.I think the saw is junk now because there was a small chip that got broken off the bottom of the cylinder skirt about the size of a fingernail.Maybe I can part it out.

I would pull it apart and sell it on eBay, help other fix several saws and you may make more than double 100

I don't know how you figure that. The only parts on the saw that are worth anything are the coil (possibly,if it checks out good),points & condenser, handle, piston, crank, flywheel (there's already one of those on Ebay for $22),Cylinder shield (already 3 of thoser on Ebay),piston, oiler rod (already one of those on Ebay), manual oiler,& bar & chain.Plus,I'd have to wait to sell each one of these items. My dad used to say "better to take the quick nickel rather than the slow quarter".I paid $15 for the saw,I'd profit $85 in two weeks time.I don't think that's doing too bad.

The carb is worth what one guy is offering, the starter half that, the case if its good another 40, if it has a AF cover over 30. As I said, the parts would help many other saw owners repair their saws, thus saving many more. Personally I would keep it because of the number of parts you could use on other models. I'm not sure I would sell a parts saw and then have to rebuy the same parts when you get another model that just needs a few parts. After all you only have 15 in the saw, it could cost you more than 85 in parts on another saw.

I didn't know that carb was worth that much. It's all going to depend on if the coil checks out good. The replacement handle costs $60 at Leon's plus shipping.BTW,it has no AF cover.I know Leon has one & it costs $17Sometimes I get so pissed at myself for things that happen all because I have no peripheral vision.Everything is going to get put on hold indefinitely because one week from today I finally go under the knife for my SI joint. Then when I get back on my feet (literally) I'll have my knuckle replaced on my right hand.I have no idea how long that's going to lay me up,could be months.

That carb was used on the XP1100, Super XP1020, and Super XP1130 as well as your XP1000. It maybe able to be used on other saws like the C series and other XP and 2000/2100 saws as well. I'm going to bet a 100 dollars would bea good asking price if someone needed that carb. I know what you mean, my vision isn't nearly a bad as yours, but it still is frustrating when you make mistakes that you shouldn't. I have a surgery on the 29th and its screwed up, because I need a different hand surgery first, but they can schedule this one quicker so they are doing them backwards, even knowing that if reversed the second surgery may not be necessary. The joy of the VA, people who often cannot get a job anywhere else, taking care of the men and women who served our country. I thin all politicians should only be allowed VA care.

Hi all, I'm brand new to this so please be patient. My dad gave me an old Home lite Chainsaw that appears to be from the 1950 or 1960 era. It looks like a WIZ model. The only numbers visible from apparent repainting are #-11168729 on the Bar, and 2-(mall circle with letters DJ) 568443-A. The saw may have been light blue and orange and was repainted Red. Any help will be appreciated!
