Found this site thru Leon's Chainsaw Parts web site. While this is labeled as a Craftsman Pro chainsaw, it is a Homelite 360 and I have an issue I cannot seem to resolve.
My uncle (more like a brother to me, we are only 1 year apart) found my grandfathers chainsaw and when it would not start asked me to look at it. After discovering it was in real bad shape I took it home to Chicago from Tennessee.
I have replaced the carburetor, gasket, boot, all the lines and filters. While it starts, it spits fuel out the carburetor and exhaust. Needless to say it does not run well and there is no wide open, it floods out. I have been able to get it to idle but that's about it.
I have read that some of these motors have reed valves but I have yet to find one on this motor or in the diagrams. Suggestions? Please?
I am really wanting to get this running for my uncle....
When I first got it home and ordered all the parts, I decided to paint it. Because my uncle is a 24 year, retired Army Ranger 1st Class, I wanted to do something a little different. Here are a few pictures of what I started with and what it looks like now....

Great job on the paint! The 360 doesn't have reeds. Sounds like you have a carburetor problem. I'm sure others will be here to help soon. Welcome.

Welcome! Nice look, I like it a lot, nice work. Thanks to your uncle for his service. There are several here who will likely have suggestions, I would start with have you put a kit in the carb? That is the most common trouble with any saw that won't run right. AND that is about all I know about that saw. Stick around, others will be here soon.

After reading a lot of threads on this site (thank you all!!!) I decided to pull it down and look again. I discovered the Spark Arrester was completely plugged up.. omg!
Question: Will this cause enough of a back pressure to cause the fuel spitting out the Carb?
fyi: Pressure check on the engine is 125psi. Seems good to me and I do not see any scarring on the cylinder thru the carb intake or the exhaust port.

That's a pretty good possibility. In any case, it can't help much. Does it run now? Most 2 cycles will spit back some from time to time.

After you clean spark arrester, re-check compression again. 125 is a little low for that saw. Spit back can happen more on piston ported saws vs reed valve saws.

After removing the build up on the spark arrester (used a propane torch and wire brush), the saw is running much better... Now it seems I have the wrong replacement fuel filter in it because after running under load for 25 to 30 seconds, it runs like its Loading Up but when I stop cutting and try to keep it running it dies.
Anyone know where I can get an old type filter or a suggestion on a replacement? Here is a picture of the old filter (on the right) and one in the saw now...

Try loosening the fuel cap a turn or so, to be sure the tank is vented.

Did that... I think it is starving for fuel

It may need a carb kit. Fuel pump may not be keeping up with demand.

New carb...
So I removed the breather port on the gas cap, replaced the fuel filter with a larger one.
Started the saw and did some adjustments. Just when I thought I got it figured out it seems the High speed adjustment has affects on the idle. I have the idle where I THINK it is on the edge of dying.... Also, while sitting idling, the speed changes.
Good point... Doing a load test / Cut of log, I do not seem to have the other Loading Issue I had before. Ideas, suggestions? I am not use to dealing with 2 strokes...

You may have air leaks in crankcase. When you had it apart would have been a good time to do a pressure/vacuum test. May need new crank seals.

You can also buy just a replacement felt for your original filter, Homelite part#64083

I am not use to dealing with 2 strokes... Since you replaced the carb, different carbs have different adjustment procedures. Go to the Homelite Repair manuals section and download the Homelite chainshop manual 5th edition. How to adjust carbs is on pages B42-B43 for a 360. houseofhomelite.proboards.com/thread/5563/homelite-chainsaw-shop-manuals

Thanks to everyone here, I was able to give my grandfathers chainsaw to my uncle in TN. Not sure if he is going to use it or hang it over the mantle.... LOL The entire family went Nuts over it.
Here are a couple of pictures in its final state in TN...
Thank you all again and now I have started on my 1957 EZ.... Looks like I am going to need a media blaster for that on....

Looks good Bob! Is that a dip finish or did you paint the saw like that?

I did the entire paint job from scratch and covered it in 7 coats of clear. Oil and Gas just run right off of it
