Hello to all. Here is a link to a list of Homelite IPL's I have on my computer in PDF format. I also have some McCulloch and Mall IPLs. The link I've posted is from another site, that will save me from typing them all here again. If you need a copy of the IPL just send me and email at: lewis_brander2001@msn.com and I'll attach a copy and send it back to you. You must email me to get a copy. Here is the link to a list I have: www.chainsawcollectors.se/viewtopic.php?t=245

I have many IPLs that are in digital format and are fairly nice quality, but the only downside is that most are big (~ 3 to 6MB). If anyone wants, I'll be happy to email these, but if you have dial-up, it can take a bit and definitely clog up your email. Here's a few of the one's I have: 150, EZ-250, 350,450,550,650 rev 1 and 2, 750, 540, 8800, , 410, XL - 123, VI-123, XL-102,102,103, XL-113,114,122, XL-901,903,904, XL-921,923, 924, XL-925, 1050, XP-1020,1130. I dropped you a PM Thanks

Brian, I think this is a great idea. As with most great ideas though, the problem will be in execution. I've got a bunch of IPLs in various scanned formats (some pdf, some just pics, some pics mixed with text) that I'd be more than happy to send for "pot evaluation".
Having a "pot" sounds like a great concept. Organization of this pot may get a bit complex though. I have my stuff arranged in folders with all the '50s IPLs in a folder called "pro series", "C-series, XP, 1000 and 2000 series" are togther in another folder, "small saws" has the XL, Super2, 150, Super EZ and stuff, an XL folder has the XL-12, Super XL, XL-100, 700,800,and 900 series.
So, in my mind, here's some of the big questions that need to get squared away: 1. File formats... Do we want to limit content to only pdf? 2. How any samples? Do we want to only keep one copy of a particular IPL based upon common vote? Will there be enough storage to possibly maintain multiple copies from different sources of the same IPL? Probably not a need for this, but some may disagree on which one looks better. 3. File size limits. Alot of mine are pics and the total size for a single IPL gets into several MB each. I guess we need to establish a file size limit, or possibly size per page limit? 4. How will we pick a keeper? It'd be nice to have a "candiate" area that we could upload too and then have an election to pick the "winner". It could be an ongoing cycle where a new contender could challenge the current champ and hope to become the new "official" IPL version. Again, if we could maintain multiple copies of a given IPL, then there wouldn't be a need to choose, but its more space needed to do it.
Just a few thoughts thrown out. I think having not only an IPL library, but mupltiple document libraries would be awesome. Owner's manuals, service bulletins, spec sheets, etc. Of course its all about how much space is available and time to manage it, but it would be nice to have docs in a spot for members to share and download. I do agree IPLs would be the most worth to get the ball rolling though.

Not many replies yet jumping in on this one. I wish there would be 'cause it would be a great asset to the site to have a document repository.

I'd thought about setting up a home page and have sections for the various saws (particularly the '50 series), but found out pretty quickly that it would take alot more space than was available (without additional fees). I'd envisioned something where you'd select a model, and you could then view pics, see the IPL, see the owners manual, service manual section, and any other applicable documents. One day if time permits need to try to play around with frontpage or something and at least try to set it locally.
What I'd really like in place is a bi-directional parts database. This has been discussed a few times on here. You could enter a part number and find what the part is and a refernce to which saws used it, or you could start from an IPL and at least find related info on a particular part. That would be a HUGE effort to try to scan everything and enter into a database. Maybe one day.

Dan Jump Jump Jump I'll do the scanning but first lets find out how to host the library. I have some IPLs that are 12 pages, pictures are Ok, the text is great, and they are less than 200K in PDF. I have some others in the same group that the text is unreadable - we don't need that. OldZip, Remember the Carb IPLs I sent you? That file was for 21 carb IPL and it was 12 meg but I don't think the resolution needed to be that high. We don't want *.jpg scans. The file size is just too big when you get the required resolution.

Hey guys, love the idea and would totally love to help...cept I got no ipls. Pdf is probably going to be best suited to your needs. As far as actually creating a library. Hmmm...Im questioning the ability to simply create a portion within the forum and then upload each ipl under a "thread" of the saws name. Now, if that is not possible, im just trying to think of a place (like the photoshack idea) where you can upload data files and then link out to the external site. Maybe rbw has a better idea of what can be done as he's pretty handy with all this computer stuff.

im working on a website that will have almost all the ipls on that one website and when that happens i know someone on ebay that will be mighty upset about it
good thing is unlimited bandwidth so its nice to know that
but there is one catch at it it costs 198.00 for 2 years hosting plan to get this in the process so it will be awhile before i can get something started
