There is an XL-88 1-1/2 hours away.
States it ran well until carb issues. The carb is missing in the pictures. Looks to be in good shape.
Looks like it's based on an XL-800 or XL-850.
Are these rare and/or desirable?
Asking 60 bucks.

I’ve never seen one for sale. So that’s pretty rare.

I don't think you can lose at $60. At least in my area any MP saw that runs will sell for upwards of $150, so you can pry get your money back even if you have to put some work into the fuel system. I've never seen an XL-88 either, I know its the little brother of the XL-98 which I have one of, and its a nice unit.

The carb and airbox cover are missing. They were put in a shoebox and accidentally thrown away...

Probably going to pass on this. It is not something I would use very often and I have plenty of other projects.

It’s always about what you can do, that saw is a good deal but does need a lot of work. The MP saws also used a different air filter which appears to be missing and are probably hard to come by. In addition, you never know about the internals of these MP saws as they tend to suck in a lot of concrete/metal or whatever is being cut. Judging by the condition of the airbox, I’d say that one was ran with a dirty filter (or worse, no air filter) for a time.

I have a parts list for XL88. It is somewhat shop worn, but looks like it only has 3 pages 1 to 6 with both front and back pages. It does not show an air filter or cover. I don't see how they could use something like that without a filter. The carb number is the same as the XL-98. The Homelite number is A-64465 - HS-46A. They had that saw on line for a long time and the XL-98 also had 98, 98A,98C, 98D, 98E and had a lot of changes. I have a couple boxes of used parts a customer gave me and we junked them all out as the engines were ruined. I don't remember if there were any 88 parts. I will check. chaisawlady
