I pulled off the cylinder baffle & put the boot in through it & then put the baffle back on.I see where there's a gasket & adapter that are involved. What must I do to have the boot installed properly? The IPL doesn't really show how to install the boot as most of the required visuals are hidden.

I guess I was right when I said this saw would never run again.

Maybe post up some pictures of what you’re working with? I’ve never been within 100 yards of an MP88 but will take a look.

The MP88 is pretty much the same as the XL-98,more or less, they're both multi-purpose cut off saws.Maybe I'm over-thinking this because I'm used to Homelite's PITA saws with boots - 330,360,410,etc.Here are some pics.
This is a pic with the boot "installed".
Here is a pic of the boot in the flange with a gasket.
Here is a pic of where it all gets stuffed into-the cylinder.

It's been a while since I've done one of these, but I think you need to get the throttle handle/tanks off and then you should see two screws that hold the black plastic cylinder baffle in place. Those screws hold the intake adapter to the cylinder, which I believe sandwiches the boot in place.
