What is the correct Oregon bar mount for the Super Mini? I have a few random bars that fit the studs but don’t really seem to fit the oiler. Looking for 16”. Does Oregon still manufacture a bar? Are the tree alternatives?

If I'm not mistaken, the EZ,SEZ,& Super Mini all took the D096 & the D196 mount bar.Oregon has discontinued manufacturing those bars last summer.I've been loading up on them for the past few months, not so much the 16 in.bars as the 20 in.bars.You can still find them on Ebay at a decent price.Chainsawlady may still have some in stock as well.

I have both sets of bar plates. I think that I have a D096 style bar but I forgot to place the s spacer in around the studs. It was binding the chain up without it. Figured it was the wrong bar....It also looked like it oiled through the adjuster hole. Now it all makes sense. I tried another bar that I got from a random saw but the oil hole didn’t line up well. Great info fossil and Ed. Thanks!

Second question related to a super mini Oregon chain. Trying to figure out the correct file size. I think that the chain codes are well published but thought I would just ask for reassurance,
Oregon chain code 72. What is the correct file size? It says 7/32 but that file seems too big...

I'm pretty sure I'm using a 5/32 file on my smaller 72 chains.On the bigget 20 in.72 chains I'm using a 7/32 file.I like using Pferd files.I've tried Total files & I think a Husky file once.They just don't hold up well IMHO.

I have Oregon files. Yes the7/32 seems too big for the 16” chains. (59 or 60 links I think....) 5/32 seems to fit under the top plate and the 7/32 is above the plate....that doesn’t seem right.
I had just assumed that an Oregon chain with 72 stamped on a drive link was universal.

Oregon "72" chain takes a 7/32"-(5.5mm) file. To correctly sharpen the chain, 1/5th of file diameter should protrude above the cutter top .

Each Oregon chain pitch uses a specific code for gauge which has nothing to do with the file size.
72 is an Oregon 3/8 pitch, .50 ga chain.
The file size is 7/32 but as the cutter gets filed back the height of the cutter diminishes. At some point I just switch to a 3/16" file that is used for a .325 pitch chain.
73 chain is 3/8 .058 ga 75 chain is 3/8 .063 ga
19, 20 and 21 .325 chain gauges
Other chain makers / rebrands use different code numbers.
When the cutters get close to the end of their life, I find it is when they cut the fastest as long as the depth gauges are properly set.
There are chain pitch, gauge and cutter type cross reference charts out there for different manufacturers

This just jogged my memory (getting a little poor these days).I use the 5/32 file on the 91 chain & old Husky 35 chain (lo profile chain) - my limbing saws.I use the 7/32 file on my bigger saws that use 3/8 & .404 pitch, the 72 chain & whatever the .404 chain #'s are.I only have a few .404 chains.

Hey Guys, Just to help clarify (although it sounds like it might be settled). The Super Mini did not originally come equipped with a standard SEZ Homelite -D3 8.2mm mount (Oregon K095 mount). Instead it came equipped with the larger tailed and slightly wider guide bar with a Homelite -D5 or Universal fit -A5 9.5mm mount (similar to a Oregon D096 or D196 Universal fit bar). As mentioned above this required the use of the S-clip adapter, tall plates and the oil was feed thru the top adjuster hole (which has a bypass cut in it).

I have been a bit confused as to which bar was meant to go on this Super Mini. I purchased a Super Mini that came with the top bar in your picture and it had the “tall” plates. I purchased an XL-1 that came with the bottom bar in your picture with the small plates.... No matter which bar I put on it it seems to be hard to get the chain tension right. I’m not sure what I’m missing. It’s seems to get smoking hot on the drive side after a few cuts. It almost seems like it’s getting a ton a friction or something, then possibly spinning the chain on the sprocket. It’ll rev like crazy when it dies slip and then die out(probably running out of fuel.

So let's just recap, the saw has the s-clip adapter, you've got the right gauge chain .050, the saw is oiling properly, the bar has the oil feed bypass slot, the chain gets oil if ran out of the wood? Correct?

If you have a spur sprocket and its badly worn, you'll have issues.

Well....looks like I have some investigation work. I’ll find out the answers soon!
Thanks for the clues.
