Hi folks. One good thing about social distancing is the time I have found to sift through some saws I have yet to get to. I pulled a few out and grabbed this '77 Super Mini. Under the grime it is pretty clean. Unfortunately the PO ran it on the lean side for a bit. It will need a new piston at minimum. My experience with the cylinders/plating is that they can take a beating and clean up pretty well. So, I am hoping that is the case. Although this may be better asked in a different thread, has anyone had any run time on an AM piston? Not my first choice, but I happen to have one from a land far, far away and OEM in Canada is long gone. I will pull it down this week and investigate. Go from there and shift the thread if necessary. Thanks for any input.

Well, it is a shame that this lower hours saw had a roasted top end. I cleaned up a lot of transfer from the cylinder. It remained wounded in the end. The piston fared even worse. So, I went and threw the AM piston in it. Not super impressed, but I knew that going in. Maybe it will come around after a few tanks but I won't bet on it. I'll hold out for a decent used top end when someone offers something up for sale.

The end of the golden era of points magnetos. I enjoy these immensely more than the "blues". Something that can be worked on and always a fat blue spark.
