About 3 years ago I was surfing Ebay and found a bunch of used XL-875 parts; the seller had splatted one for some reason. By the time I found the parts, some had already sold. I snagged the crankcase/tanks, throttle handle, carburetor, muffler, starter, drivecase cover & shield and automatic oil pump. The parts sat boxed up for the last 3 years while I rounded up a top end, clutch and the other misc parts. What I was really waiting for was Sugar Creek Supply...I was hoping Joe would be able to put together a set of decals so I could do a full repaint. But after all this time I figure it probably wasn't meant to be, so I started assembling the saw last week. I ended up replacing the throttle handle because of breakage and the automatic oil pump ended up being seized, but it all went fairly smoothly. During the test run, I realized I had screwed up and used 55123-C clutch springs instead of the 67441, so the chain wouldn't stop turning. Apparently you also need to make sure the choke isn't hitting the spitback filter, a spark plug is installed and the switch is set to "on" in order for a saw to start. Good looking saw Leon. Not real common to see a 875. Is an 870 uncommon also? I saw one on Ebay today.

Nice job Leon! If you're waiting on Joe at Sugar Creek to make a special set of decals for your 875,good luck if it takes as long as the belts he was supposed to come up with for the early Homelite saws.

Yeah the XL-870 is pretty uncommon. The one on Ebay is a pretty nice specimen and the price isn't horrible.
