These things are pretty neat! I didn’t realize the crankshaft and piston rod & needle bearings are one piece until the other day when I had the crank pulled out of my XL-2 to replace the shaft seals. I guess if you need a connecting rod you get a crankshaft as well?
It’s a pretty involved process just to replace the seals! It dawned on me after I had the entire saw in pieces on my bench that it probably would have made sense to have planned to at least put a new ring on the piston.
Interesting design....were any other Homelites made this way other than the XL/XL2/Super 2 guys?

The 240, 245 & 330 were similar in terms of the crank & rod assembly and crankcase-cylinder setup.

Some, (all?) Harley Davidson motors are built like this. Harley's can be disassembled with the correct tools, I don't know if these can.

So are you just rubbing it in that you might have the last new one in captivity?
Can understand why to many these machines are considered to be throw-away machines if just a crank assembly goes for $200.00.
If one had to pay someone a fair wage to install it you could buy a new saw for much less than to fix that Super 2 and you would end up with a new bar and chain.
Speaking of which I need a new bar, chain and sprocket for my "new" Super 2.

Nice ! A 'TrueValue' at $19.99 ! ...
I should have purchased one for 40 when I had the opportunity , not like I needed it though . Homelite-CAPAD is a tough nut to crack !
