I recently bought a few saws from the member here who bought 500 of them.Among the saws is a SXL-130.It's in beautiful shape, fairly clean,& I don't think it was used much at all.I went through it from top to bottom & found everything to be intact & sound. No bar & chasin came with it,but for the price I paid I can't complain.I checked it for spark & it does have spark,I checked the compression & it's like a new saw.I put a shot of fuel in the carb & it popped, then I figured I'd take a chance & put fuel in the tank & see what haoppens. In 10 pulls it fired up & then died out.I checked the needle settings & enriched them by 1/4 turn, they were at 1 turn out.I fired it up again & it seems to scream at WOT & won't idle.I'm hoping it's not seals. It does have the blue coil of death (Wico/Prestolite).I'll pull the carb & see what that looks like. I wouldn’t assume its seals right away, could be anything really. Especially if it was sitting for a long time gaskets can dry out and leak.
On another note, not sure I’ve ever seen an SXL-130, post some pics when possible!

I pulled the carb today & rebuilt it.The pump side was fairly good, but the metering side definitely needed to be replaced. The metering spring was nice & shiny just like a new one.I've never seen a spring in such good condition on an older saw like that. The rebuild did no good,it still fires up & screams WOT then dies,it won't idle at all. There's also a rubber type hose just hanging out of the engine compartment on the clutch side.I have no idea what this hose is for & where it's supposed to go to.I'll try to get some pics on here tomorrow.

Looking forward to some pics, sounds a lot like an air leak to me.

Does the hose look like this?

I have two XL130’s that have a black hose that runs from behind the reed block down to the where the cylinder attaches to the crankcase on the clutch side. I’ve never figured out what it’s actually for. I came to the assumption that it’s either there for vibration dampening or it’s a vent line that’s obsolete on certain models.

You are correct,it's a vent line I found out. It's supposed to keep the fuel from boiling. Ed

I suspect you guys are referring to this piece of tube in the pic the yellow arrow is pointing at. It attached no where. It's jammed between the crankcase and fuel tank and often secured with some black sealer to keep saw cake out of the area between the fuel tank and the crankcase to stop heat transfer to the fuel tank. As in many Homelites, that heat transfer from crud in that gap can lead to fuel boiling and vapor lock as it heats up the fuel.

Ah! That makes a lot of sense. It’s a seal. Simple but affective!

As requested, here are some pics of the 130.I'd have put them up sooner but I was a little embarrassed to say that I'd misplaced the AF cover.I grabbed it by mistake & tried putting it on the SEZ i just got going. You'll see how close it is to an SEZ AF cover,so I don't feel so bad now. Ed
