I'm currently swapping a P&C from a wreck to a better saw on a Terry XL-1 On both of these saw there is a little blind well below the reed block in the crankcase casting. I can find no hole in the well yet both were full of what appeared to be red bar oil. It's blocked by the gasket between the rear handle / air box by the gasket. I'm trying to figure why there is fluid in there. Anyone else find something like that on an EZ, Mini etc.? The tip of the pencil is pointing at the well. XL-1 CC well by fossil14, on Flickr

It almost had to have slowly seeped in over the years from tank over-fills...I can't see any other way for it to get there!

It almost had to have slowly seeped in over the years from tank over-fills...I can't see any other way for it to get there! I can't either. I picked up four sometime ago with three XL-76 saws. All owned by the same person. The XL-1's were rough. Three of the XL-1's are points saws and one is a blue coil special. One is done and runs well and this one should be decent too. I'll use this one to test the cheapo Chinese husky module on. I think I'll try it with the Phelon and Wico flywheels to see if it's a go. The 76's were all saved.

I've had several SEZ's & a couple of Mini's apart & I tore down a couple SEZ's & I haven't seen anything like that in all those saws.I'm wondering if it was a defect in the casting? Ed

Nope. It's the crankcase casting so it has no connection to the oil or fuel tanks. It's kind of a mystery and nothing to be worried about but I'm curious. What Leon said makes sense. I can't see any other way but I open to suggestions. Ed, This is my test saw for the Husky coil when I get it done. I need to make a couple of gaskets, carb kit and fuel lines, get the cylinder on and go, I hope. I know it will throw a spark with a Wico points flywheel. Just not sure where in the 360 deg it is.
