I need to clean and repaint the air filter cover and I'd like to remove the knob. It looks to be retained by a circular wire clip and I haven't figured out how to remove it. Thanks!

You can try a pair of small snap ring pliers w/fine ends.  |

That will do it.
I just pulled the cover off the saw and saw that the process was easier than that on a XL.

I was thinking on one i was working on, perhaps a super xl auto, that simply squeezing the ring smaller it slipped right out of the cover. As the ring was just loose in the groove.
