I recently started tearing into a blue EZ that I picked up and ran into an issue with the coil. I noticed that the coil body was rubbing on the flywheel. So, after removing it, I found that there is nothing holding the coil to the core. Most that I have run across have been sealed...not this one. You can freely slide the core in and out of the ignition coil. Can I just put a sealer in there to hold it in place? If so, what should I use? Never run across this before. Here is a a couple of pics showing what I found.

If I'm not mistaken there should be a pair of matal tabs that act as wedges to help hold the core in place.I wonder if they somehow vibrated out?Highly unlikely IMO.I think someone like a previous owner took it apart & "forgot" to put the tabs back in.

I fortgot to mention that if you look at an EZ IPL you should see the coil broken down into the pieces that make it up. Ed

Yeah, Ed's right about there being a retainer. That looks like a Phelon coil; if so you need a 68257 retainer clip.

Thanks. It's been a long day...been working on 3 different projects today. It never even occurred to me to look at the IPL. Just ordered the part.

Units below SN:91952093 used a coil and core assembly; A-65204. The coil was retained with a yellow adhesive.

Even though the IPL states the A-65204 (yellow adhesive retained) coils were used prior to SN:91952093 ... My EZ-auto Type:10109 SN:03340774 has the A-65204 coil/core assembly . Think I see a remnant of the adhesive on your core , in a magnified image of the second picture above . Suggest removing the coil from the core and seeing if there is a notch for the retaining clip to latch onto .

Man, you've got a good eye. I didn't see that. You're right. I pulled the coil completely off the core and found..... So, I guess I'm back to my original question.....what adhesive do I use? At least I'll have a spare clip, if I need it in the future....and I'm sure I will....

You can always use the clip or use some metal shim stock to jam the armature in the coil.

For an adhesive suggest ; Permatex Motoseal #38401 , or Optimum Grey #27036 .

I've got some Motoseal, so I'll use that. Thanks.
