Well guys I got my first gear drive saw today. Model 17. What a beast. The chain is twice as big as anything I have. What can you guys tell me about the saw. I hope to get some pictures posted of it here.

Wow what a wealth of information that is. Thank you so much for posting that. Greatly appreciated......
In cleaning the saw yesterday I knocked the governor rod off of the carb. That manual showed me what hole it goes back in. Someone at one point must have messed with it because the hoop that connects to the carb has been soldered. I will not know if it operates right till I try to fire the saw up. Hopefully a new rod can be had if needed.

Thank you so much for posting those for me. I have to try to find a photo site to host pics. I use to use photobucket but they do not seam to work anymore for me.
The guy I got the saw from said it was put on the shelf 25 years ago, and he sprayed oil on it once a year to keep it from rusting. What a sticky mess it was. I think he painted oil on it. Luckily it all seams to be there. It is so amazing how well these saws were made.
I found a small chrome plug cap under the carb. I have to find where it came from now.

I use IMGUR, it's free and works. I liked photobucket better. Once you get used to this one it's OK.

Does anyone here have a running model 17? Was just wondering what steps you go through to start it. Some people seam to think that, that plunger button on the bottom of the carb acts like a primer. I don't know...If anyone has one please chime in and give me some advice....
Thanks Steve

Wow.. That is some information. Very cool. I like the picture of all of those women holding saws. They even made the women tough back then. Thanks for the info. I enjoyed reading it so far.

You can try Tapatalk, that's what I use now and have no issues posting pictures.
