AlD I am a little confused about your request for friction discs. 56457 is fiber washer and the friction disc number is 57647. What is wrong with your discs? If they are slipping when you try to start, the problem is probably that the ends of the discs have rounded with use. I am not a good explainer, but you need to get the ends of the disc flat again. so it will contact the cup. At one time there was a good explanation on House of Homelite how to do this. Try to contact Undee70ss, he may be able to help you. I do have new discs if you think you need them. Also Leon Crouch or only homelites on the HOH forum. The end of the discs have to be filed flat again or use a grinder to do it. chainsawlady

I'd guess the 56457 Fiber Washer is the part he is looking for. They often get referred to as friction washers. There is another metal washer with each of the two fiber washers but I don't think they are the ones that provide the friction. They may be mislabeled in the IPL's.
The part that gets filed has nothing to do with the fiber/friction washers/discs.
Sometimes the friction washers can be rejuvenated just by de-greasing with carb cleaner and de-glazing them with a bit of sandpaper. I always sprinkle in a bit of granulated Pine Rosin when putting it back together too.

If I remember correctly, the earlier starters had a metal and thin fiber washer. Later they changed to no metal washer and a thicker fiber washer. The part I am talking about squaring off is the end of the part that grabs the cup. When is worn and does not hit right on the cup, it will slip. My husband would grind the ends to be flat against the cup and they didn't have to be replaced. I'm believing this is his problem, but am waiting for a reply from him. chainsawlady

Hello Joyce, The parts I'm referring to are #10 on the IPL for a C-7 and 1 of the metal slotted washers. I have already sharpened the ends. The old fiber washers are worn extremely thin, I made a pair out of thick gasket paper and roughed them up and it works but for how long is the question. If you have these parts I'd like to purchase them. Regards, Al D.
