The fuel cap on my XL-12 (1973) has an aluminum tube thats pressed fit into the cap with a barbed end to hold a duck bill check valve. I ordered 3 duck bill valves from Leon part #69451 (1 for the gas cap, 1 for the oil cap & 1 extra). Looks like part #69451 is the duck bill for the cap with the brass filter and duck bill in the cap not the aluminum tube. Does anyone have the part number for the duck bill on the end of the aluminum tube. Doesn't appear this duck bill will fit the oil cap either.

I think the duckbill goes inside the other end of that aluminum tube, with that same end pressed back into the cap and you can't see the duckbill at all when it's assembled.
I'm not sure though as I've never had one of that type before. At least something to look into till somebody else chimes in.

It's the correct Duckbill check valve, it goes in the other end of the tube than is currently pictured. Then that end is pressed into the cap, same arrangement for the oil cap.

Thanks 5terrysupersaws. The barbed end is too small for the cap, while the opposite end fits snug. I assumed the barbs played a roll in holding the valve in place. Thanks again for your input

Thanks again for your input You're welcome. IF the barbed end is too loose, use the other end, just make sure the tube is fully seated and can't fall out.

All is well with my gas cap/deck bill. Assembled things like 5terrysupersaws suggested. Put my MityVac on it, obviously didn't hold vacuum but held pressure for as long as I wanted. The design defied MY logic. Every process in manufacturing cost time and money, couldn't figure out why they put barbs on the end of the aluminum tube if they don't serve a purpose.Everythig seems to work though. Thanks again for everyones help

I would bet the part was originally designed for something else and is used for multiple applications to save costs.

Westcoastthumpin, you're probablt right. It's cheaper to use an existing design than start from scratch

I have at least 2 that are missing the aluminum piece all together. Does anyone have a work around or a substitute part?
