Well I was out cutting up some storm damage about a month ago when my saw up and quit on me. Got it home and over the next couple days fiddled with the tuning and got it to sort of idle but wouldn’t rev up, so being the rational minded teenager I am, I decided if it sat for a few weeks it would probably fix itself. Well when I had final cooled off I took a closer look and decided a reed Valve had probably given up but to my surprise I found this instead: One of the threaded inserts had pulled out either from me or a previous owner cranking down on the carb bolts to much. Luckily some super glue and roughing up the surfaces has yielded good results. A new gasket later and now the saw runs better than when I received it and I’m a happy camper. Side note, if anyone has a air filter for an XL-123 new or good used I’m looking for a good deal

Nice work.
I would expect the super glue to fail in the not too distant future however. I would be looking for a new carb spacer so I had it when I needed it.

I’ll keep you updated on how the superglue holds up. I’ve run the saw for about an hour with the fix and so far so good. I’ve had pretty good luck with superglue in places where there isn’t much gap and with well roughed surfaces (prep is everything I’ve found). Will definitely be on the lookout for a new or used one though. Thanks for the part # 5terrysupersaws

just thought i would update this real quick for those who come in the future, I have been running this saw as much as I can and have not had a failure of my superglue repair yet at over a year later. still amazes me how well this saw keeps up with the newer and much more expensive stihls and huskys

Thanks for the update.
Homelite made some very hard working saws, I am sure they would own the market if the people at the top had wanted to. They certainly had the engineering talent on board.
