A year or so back i had a 240 and a super 2 that came with a saw i wanted. They have been sittind deep behind other stuff. I took a look at the 2 saws today. They run and i pulled the mufflers, both have very good cylinders/pistons. Any input on if either is a good saw. I have a bunch of the super xls, a couple 410s and a 923. Not much in the way of a small saw.

I have 3 super 2's and they are great little saws. Not a powerhouse but good power for the size. They are my go-to for limbing and brush clearing.
Never ran a 240 before but I've heard good things. I don't think you would go wrong with either!

I agree with Rowdy on the Super 2's. Very handy little saw for limbing and the like. My first saw when I was about 12 years old was a Super 2 that I still have. It's a little screamer. Most old Super 2's that won't start only need a little fuel system cleaning and renew like a fuel line, filter and carb kit to get them going again. You can't get to much of anything without pulling the engine out of the case but once you've pulled one out once or twice, it's not even a 5 minute deal. One little tip, if you have the magnesium case and self tapping screws, throw those screws in the trash and replace with standard screws to avoid wearing out the holes in the case. I used to buy 10-32 helicoils by the 100 count due to self-tapping screws in the XL/Super 2 saws.
On the 240's, I never was much of a fan I think mostly because the handles were pretty limber due to the A/V mount system. I just didn't like the squishy feel however I've known folks that really like them. But I'll give them their due, I believe they have a pretty darned good little engine, powerful for it's size and very durable. Never seen one burnt up. And with the soft A/V system, they'll probably leave some feeling in your hands and fingers after a long day of running one.
Good luck bringing back some old Homelites from the grave!

Its all about the time. I far more saws than the wife would like. I currently have a 923 i rebuilt, two 410s, one with very little use the second more used that i am planning on breaking down a bit and sprucing up. I must have 6 super xls, one i just did a cylinder and piston on, I have 3 EZ saws one running 2 not, the 240 and the the little one. I also have two very old craftsman saws that are homelite red but very old all metal pulin saws. Wish had more time.

In my not so humble opinion, the Super 2 is a fantastic little saw. I currently have 3 of them and use mine all the time. If what I'm after is in the 6-8" or less range or even bigger but just a few cuts, it's the first saw I go for. Nice and light & maneuverable when you just don't need the Super XL, lots of power, the two trigger system letting you use it as a top handle, easy as can be to work on when needed... Parts saws are readily available everywhere around here. It's one of my favorites.
Don't have a 240, don't really want a 240.

The 240 doesn't do much for me but i have it so i figure what the hell might as well get it going if its not a big deal. I am mot a big fan of the sloppy antivibration handles. I would rather not have if its loose? The 410s i have are a nice tight anti vibration
