While I am waiting for my needle bearing to arrive for my 450 I have been looking for a replacement bar. I have an old 20 inch bar that came with the saw but I would like to try 28 inch bar. Does anyone know of a current bar that will work for my saw? I realize that I may have to customize the bar to fit but I was hoping to keep such things to a minimum. Thanks.

If you're looking for a NOS homelite bar, I would message chainsawlady as she has a good selection of NOS bars. If my reference is correct, the 450 uses an Oregon 196 Mount which is the same as the SXL series. The biggest bar that I am aware of currently being produced is 24", Oregon Part # 240RNDD196. My Oregon book (older) lists a 27" bar, Oregon 270RNDD196, but I haven't been able to locate that bar for sale anywhere. One thing to keep in mind is both those bars are sprocket nose and will only work with 3/8 pitch .050 gauge chain. I would imagine thats what the saw has on it already, but if you're not the original owner things can change over the years I personally think the 450 would be well suited to a 24" bar. The acres site shows it as having up to a 31" bar but I wouldn't go that high. I have a few of the SXL-series saws with several lengths of bars on them. The one in my Avatar is an XL-500 which is the same size as your 450 (74cc) and has a 24" bar. I actually prefer the shorter length 20" bars just because the saw has reserve power. With the longer bars they can really get bogged down especially in hardwoods. And I don't often cut anything over 20" anyway. There are some pretty good deals out there for bar/chain combos.
