Picked this up the other day I cannot tell if it is a 240 or a 245 with a 240 recoil. The UT number is worn off.   |

That strikes me as a 245 with a 240 recoil as you mention. I don't remember the 240 having that round button on the top of the handle. Maybe can tell by serial #?

Several possibilities. The only difference between a 240 and a 245 is the 245 has a manual oiler also. Could be a 245 with 240 covers, could be a 240 with a 245 handle. Check to see if it has the 245 oil pump, which has the extra fittings for the manual oiler. 245’s were Homelite’s smallest saw with manual/automatic oiling.
