I went to an auction today with nothing particular in mind to buy. When this old Monkey Ward saw went for $8 with a new chain, I figured it just as well be mine as anybody else's. I brought it home and didn't even have to put gas in it, just gave it whiff of ether and fired it up. Everything works, it fires right up, idles, cuts, oiler works. It even seems like after I get it limbered back up some it might be pretty powerful. 3.6 cubic inches isn't exactly a toy. The stack muffler is a little rough to deal with but other than that, what a surprise for $8. Maybe I'll run into a MW collector someday that needs it. These were built by Remington/DESA if I recall correctly? I'm sure somebody knows.
And the only Homelite trinket of the day was a chain filing guide. I don't recall ever seeing one just like it.

It certainly has most the traits of a Remington. The rollernose bar too! Which will fit the Homelite Super XL's. It doesn't have Remington's name on that oval data plate? or underneath somewhere?
For $8- it was a steal.

This thing barks!
