Just received my grandfathers Super XL. (SN AO 03326094) Planning on a restoration project for my daughter and myself. From what I can figure from the SN it is a Nov. 28, 1970? The only visible damage is a pretty bad dent in the handle. Hopefully a fun project. I'm sure I'll be on here plenty in search of information. If anyone can double check that date for me, I sure would appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

That leads to some confusion. I thought I read somewhere that they didn't make the blue ones after the early '70s. (I see that I failed to mention it was blue.) Interesting...

Welcome,
The SN: 03326094 maybe incorrect.. as that would be Saturday, November 28th, of 1970
..doubt Homelite was building saws on Saturday or they built 6094 units in a day

Welcome, The SN: 03326094 maybe incorrect.. as that would be Saturday, November 28th, of 1970 ..doubt Homelite was building saws on Saturday or they built 6094 units in a day IMO, the date is correct, the saws per day is not. This was a transition period for Homelite on serial numbers as they were just starting the 8 digit serial number. The last 4 numbers IMO are total products built maybe for the year, or the month. Nobody knows for sure.

Nobody knows for sure. I always include the specific build day (Saturday in this case) as a way to verify the serial number. The "transition period" would explain this one, if the first "0" is dropped and looking at Ms.Joyce's sale records, a similar Super XL- SN: 3323680 was sold on 11/17/70

OK, blue is a problem with 1980 but 1980 was a leap year so day 332 would be the 27th, which I show as Wednesday. Also, I get the 28th in 1980 as Friday. None of which helps much I guess, since we still aren't sure of the decade. I am gonna vote for 1970, even though the chart does not go there.
Welcome to the House of Confusion, sometimes Homelite. Please ask easier questions. :{)

It’s a 70 for sure, no blue SXL’s in the 80’s, all saws in the 80’s had 9 digit serial numbers, and the tag was moved to the air box by then anyways. The date is correct, saws per day is not, which is common on all saws built before late 1977.
