So when I got my first super XL 925 it did not have a bucking spike so I ordered one. Along came my second 925 and it had this big spike on it. Out of the two which one is closer to what was original? personally I do not care for that big one, for what I do it seems to be more in the way than anything else. I might could easily be talked out of the big spike if someone is interested www.flickr.com/photos/138659658@N05/shares/P01vPe

Both are original. The big one is a west coast spike, the other is a standard spike.

Yeah, the big spike is for the heavy bark on west coast trees.

I know nothing of where my saw came from originally, other than I got it from a fella in the Albany,N.Y.area,which is about a 4-4 1/2 hr.drive away.I knew a young lady who lived in that area with her husband & I contacted her to see if when she visited her parents in my area, she'd bring 5 saws to me.That was the original deal.I was supposed to get 2 Macs,2 Jonsered 451's, & the SXL-925,but the other four saws were stolen from their garage, most likely because they were complete saws,& probably stolen for drug money.I ended up with the sole 925,which didn't even have a handle on it.I pieced it together & quite frankly I think I ended up with the best saw of the whole lot! Sorry it took me awhile to respond I ended up back in Plymouth. I am not sure now about getting rid of it anyway. It’s always easy to say I’m going to sell something but then it’s harder to do it. Kinda like the bigger bow bar I have. It was easy to say I’d get rid of it but harder to actually do lol

I need to sell 4 non Homelite saws, but it hasn’t happened for several years. I’m just not a seller type person.

I don't feel so alone then.Lol When I first started collecting saws just about a yr.ago,it was my intention at first to part them out & make a few bucks selling parts, but then I saw that I could revive these old saws. Some are easy to repair, some are more involved. After repairing them & giving them a new life I've grown attached to them & I empathize with you guys how difficult it is to sell them. Yea I might just hang on to it too because it might be one of the last things I acquire for sometime as chainsaws go. Got number 3 baby arriving in May gotta get the wife a bigger vehicle. I also just had an MRI the other day and very likely am looking at neck surgery soon. I have three herniated discs in my spine that will need replacing. Looks like the medical industry will be getting all of my “disposable” income lol.

John,I've had four neck surgeries & possibly looking at my fifth.I go to the doc today. My surgeries all stem from an accident I had on a tractor when I was 15,actually I was thrown from the tractor when rear-ended by a moron & landed on my neck.I'm pretty lucky in that I didn't end up as a quadriplegic.Make sure you get a top notch surgeon & maybe a 2nd opinion.I thought I had a top notch surgeon for the first three surgeries.Funny how things worked out for me;I got into a spat with the doc's "office manager"about how to fill out an ins.form (she thought she knew it all).I ended up walking out & finding a neurosurgeon. He told me that in order for bone to heal or form it needs to have inflammation. The first doc was feeding me tons of anti-inflammatory drugs which prevented the first & third surgeries from being effective & having the bones fuse. This led to my fourth surgery.BTW,your discs don't get replaced. The artificial disc is only approved by the FDA as a one level replacement, any more than that & you'rer looking for trouble.Make sure you research as much as you can. This will be a life changing event & you might possibly never be able to work again, depending on which levels are being fused. Yea I haven’t really talked with my Dr yet. He referred me to the radiology place where they did the MRI. The MRI technician is the one that told me there are 3 bumps in there that indicate a herniated disc. I’m supposed to hear back from my Dr today.

Don't be too quick to jump at surgery if you don't have to right away, especially with your new kittle one on the way.I have a friend of mine who has been working as a commercial plasterer for about 15-20 yrs.who has several herniated discs in his neck too.He gets vertigo so bad though that he had his son drive home from work.I don't know how that's going now since his son got laid off. With me,I'd get horrendous headaches after I lifted something over 40 lbs.,or pull on something like a stubborn bolt or nut.I'm going for an MRI this month to see what I'm up against. If it goes up one level higher I'll lose all of my ability to turn my head sideways,or look up.I've already lost about 30% motion.

I'm sure that I can speak for many of the members, we are pulling for you, your family and getting the right answers from your medical team. What to do with the bucking spike can wait. Your castle needs a healthy king.

Thanks stillsawing, I got a report from my Dr the other day but still don’t know anything. I’ve known him a long time and his family. His nurse actually made the call and said that the discs are fine and in her or his words I have “severe arthritis in the spine”. They are referring me to a neurologist at a neurospine place here. I don’t even know when yet as they haven’t called to make the appointment. All I know is what I’ve research but the last thing she said to me was the Dr Headley sends his best and that I should be prepared to “hear things I may not want to hear”. Lol I know it’s just another stepping stone in my path but it will still lead me where I need to be or am supposed to be in the end.

Sorry to hear about this John! You've got the right attitude though...a guy can't change the cards that are dealt. But you sure as hell can play them the best possible way. I truly believe a good attitude is as important to healing as the operation is.
