So after all this time I’m finally undertaking a complete take down and restore and of nothing more than a C-72! I’ve almost got it stripped down now getting ready for a good media blasting then paint but I’ve run into a problem. How does the manual oil pump rod that runs through the air box come off...or does it?

You must take the button off for the rod to come out

Hmmm that seems near impossible on mine. I will work with it and see what I come up with

How does the manual oil pump rod that runs through the air box come off...or does it? You do have to have the air box removed to do this.

Yea I guess it’s one of those things you don’t realize. Got it all apart and the clutch side bearing had been HOT at some point. Looks like some pretty good scoring around it and where the seal rides

Thanks it took a little patience but that button finally loosened up and slipped off that rod. I’m gonna go ahead and start cleaning up and getting ready to paint I will figure something out on the crank. It’s taken too long to give up now. I’d like to have a new (or good shape used) but if push comes to shove I’ll try this one in the end

Post a picture of the crankshaft for evaluation please. (no pressure) The bearing is available and the seal crosses over to a SKF number.

Oh I’ve got all the parts for it new bearings seals gaskets lol matter of fact with the exception of most of the “body” parts all the internals will be NOS. New piston, rings, rod bearings, both crank bearings and seals. I will get a pic soon. Another concern I have is that it seems the outer nut threads for the sprocket are worn down to almost non existent.
