Just got back from Iowa a few hrs ago, this is the one from the Higby auction. Mark picked up my stuff and held it for me till I was able to get them (thanks Mark). I got to see his awesome McCulloch collection, and some other brands, and see his chainsaw museum building that is being worked on. This saw looks complete, original bar, runs on a prime. The chain is definitely finished. Other items I got from the Higby auction were a bunch of NOS Homelite bars ( mostly for small saws), a bunch of Homelite chain loops, ( which 1/2 doesn’t even fit Homelite’s), a VI Super 2, and a 2500 watt Homelite generator ( which is brand new)

Nice looking saw, it's got a good home. Didn't you mention that many Homelite dealers probably lacked a lathe? Now you have reason to look for one. Congrats on your new find.

The whole saw appears to be in decent shape, no signs of abuse. I was wondering if some of the parts for the C series planetary setup are interchangeable. Is your saw running 3/8s or.404? Lots to learn about these rare saws.

I checked the ipls and the sprockets are different between the XL and the C series, at least they have different numbers for the .404 versions. A guy really should look at the entire list of part numbers to see if any of them interchange.
I assume my chain is supposed to be 3/8, I should have looked closely when I had it apart, to see if the 3/8 fit well to the sprocket. I got no bar or chain so I should figure that out before I mount something up.

So is mine...I think that was the most common, but I've never had either sprocket come through in any of the parts lots I've bought.

Is the XL15 a variant of the XL12? I've never seen 404 on a Homelite that small. I have a Stihl 08S with 404, and it looks kind of bad azz with that big chain.

A XL15 with a 20" roller nose, and a .404 semi skip would be a fun saw to knock down trash trees and make firewood. Still keeping my eyes open!

I've found that when you least expect your saw it shows up.Just within the last few days I just happened to be in the right spot at the right time & I got two saws that have been on my list for quite some time - a Mac SP125C (those saws have been going for crazy prices on Ebay lately, one sold last week for $2000) & the other was a Danarm 1-36.I got them both dirt cheap too. So,when you least expect it,expect it (if that makes any sense). It’s a gear drive saw and that would be the only reason it could pull 404. Mines 3/8 though and finding a sprocket in either pitch would be a miracle.
