I saw this Zip on CL a couple of weeks ago.I contacted him back then & told him I was interested, but I'd have to make arrangements for a ride.I went to see the saw today & took my scrench & my oil can with gas to squirt fuel into the plug hole.I checked for spark first & got zapped in the process & informed the owner that it had spark. That was worth a good laugh. Then I gave it a shot of fuel & put the plug back in & proceeded to give it a couple of pulls. It fired & ran for a few seconds.I asked him how much he'd take & he told me to make an offer.I offered him $50 (his asking price on CL was $60)He told me he only had $9 after I gave him $60.I told him it was close enough,so I got this beauty for $51. Tough to tell from that angle but that looks like a Tillotson HL to me, similar to the 117A I just rebuilt in my 707g.

I sent a pic in an email to Sugar Creek Supply & got an email back within a matter of minutes.Joe Salva, the proprietor of SCS said it looked to be a Brown CS.He said that I needed to take the carb off the saw & it'd have a stamp on it somewhere. Ed

The zip I have has an HL tilli on it, looks just like that one to. Mixture screws on the side with the holes in front where they'd go on other models.

Thanks for your input Pat.Neither one of those carbs looks like mine.I got into a bit of a disagreement with a couple of members on FB about the mfgr.of the saw putting a Brown carb on it.They were telling me that if there's a Brown carb on the saw, then it isn't factory. Then he went on to tell me that he had the IPL.I told him that there were many different models of the Zip & asked him if he had all the IPL's.I haven't heard back from him since.Again,Joe Salva, the owner of Sugar Creek Supply said that my carb looked like a Brown CS model.I won't know till I pull the carb. i am not expert at all in thoses so i cant tell about the brown carb. sure enough thoses are 50+ year old so who knows what could have happened during thoses years....is it factory or not....i think it is really easy and cheap to put on a Tillo in there if the Brown su*ks. i wouldnt argue with anyone about that it doesnt worth that effort imho

I was going to take the carb off the Zip today, but I don't know which screws to take out & I'm somewhat baffled as to how the linkage comes un done.Below is a pic with my finger pointing to a mounting screw,do I take these screws out,or the ones above?I had these screws out & gently tapped with a hammer, but nothing happened.I'm afraid if I hit it too hard I'll break something.

Take both sets of screws out...the old gaskets are likely hardened in place. If you are lucky, only one will tear as it comes out! Get a big screwdriver behind the air intakedown by the carb and it should pop loose.

OK,I got the carb off just a little bit ago,it's a Tillotson HL46B.Now the $64,000 question is what kit does it take?I looked on the Tillotson site & it doesn't go back that far.It only goes back to HL108. Ed

Thanks Greg,I followed the link you provided & found the post that was made in Mar.2012.There is a DG-5 available on Ebay, but it's a diaphragm & gasket kit only, there is no needle seat,or lever.I can probably do without the new metering lever, but I'm sure I'll need a new needle & seat.Is there another kit that can be substituted ?,like an RK-88HL?
