I found this string trimmer sitting out for trash a few years ago. I picked it up and took it home since I have used this type since childhood and know how great it is. Model: UT-10584-B Serial #:Unreadable
So I started to work on it. First was to get it to run. I checked the compression and it had an amazing 115 PSI. So I took off the carburetor and wasnt surprised at what I found, old goopy fuel. It needed both fuel line replaced also.
After cleaning the carburetor, new fuel lines and fresh fuel, it started and ran rough. So I tuned the fuel mixture needles and had it running good. I used it for 2-3 years and then this year I decided to do a full clean up on it since its in really good shape. I took it fully apart, except I didnt pull the piston or rod out. I degreased everything. The muffler wasnt rusted out so I put it in evapo-rust and after a day pulled it out, cleaned it and painted it with black grill paint. I had to get a new muffler gasket, crankcase gasket, air filter and spark plug Then I put it back together.
It was in really good shape after that but the fuel tank was so yellow I couldnt stand it. Well I remember a guy on youtube that restores old computers and he fixes the nasty yellow plastic back to its original color using Salon Care 40. So I went and got some to try it out. After 30 hours of strong sun light this is the comparison. Both tanks were pretty close to the same color before I did anything.
It was missing the shield down at the bottom of the shaft, stops grass and debris from flying up at you and trims the string to length. My dad has a weed wacker thats the same style as this one and it hasnt been used in 4+ years and it has a blade with shield on it now. So I took his shield and sandblasted then painted it. I still need to find one for myself, I see 2 on ebay but at $40-$45 shipped for one, thats just to much for it in my opinion.
I'll get some fully assembled shots when the suns out in the next few days.
