I got a mint little XL last month for $20.I got it home, looked it over good, took the plug out for examination,& decided to fuel it up & see what happens.Upon trying to start it the primer bulb disintegrated from age,so I primed the carb & it took off running. It was like running a mosquito fogger though.I figured it needed new duckbill in the oiler,no problem.I didn't realize till after the saw was shut down that I had an open fuel line in the tank from where the fuel line attached to the primer bulb (I had disconnected it when the primer bulb fell apart).I ran the saw for a short time doing some tree pruning.I shut the saw off when I thought I was finished & tried to restart it again when I found another small branch to cut.I haven't been able to restart the saw since.Could the carb have sucked unfiltered gas into the carb causing the problem of not wanting to start? Thanks in advance. Ed

Anything is possible, repair the lines and primer, then try again. It should run with a squirt of fuel into the inlet, no matter what is wrong with the carb.

Waiting on some new primer bulbs from Feebay.I got a pack of 5 for $1.59,but as usual they're coming from China,so anybody's guess when I'll get them.Something I noticed when I pulled the recoil off - everything under the recoil looks identical to a Super 2.I pulled one apart in the spring, the saw had no compression & no spark, but the outer case was good. Yes the XL and super 2 share a lot of the same construction!
Assuming its not flooded, I'd give it a shot of fuel in the carb and see if it pops. If it does, sounds like the carburetor or fuel system is suspect. If not, I'd look to spark, easy enough to check spark.
In any case, a carb rebuild and new fuel/oil lines should be less than 10 bucks and a well worth it IMO.

I got the primer bulbs yesterday after waiting 6 weeks to get them & they're way too small.I refuse to spend upwards of $30 for a replacement gas cap with the primer bulb on it.Does anyone know where I can get the RIGHT primer bulb for this saw,or the replacement part #? Ed

I measured the old primer bulb area with my calipers.I probably should've done that from the beginning. It measures 22 mm.& I found one on Feebay. This time it's coming from Fl.,so I won't have to wait 6 weeks to get it. Ed

I ended up buying a new primer bulb w/cap on Ebay for $18.I filled the tank wityh fuel, primed it,& away it went! UT#10748,Ser.# HP2770*72 (I put the * in between the numbers because there's some type of figure there that looks like a megaphone)I don't think I can get a pic of it because the handle is in the way.It says XL & under that it says "Little Red".This saw is immaculate. It looks like it just came off the assembly line, except for the bar. Now I've got another issue with this little gem - the oiler isn't working.I ran the saw for a few min.yesterday & I started it again today.I checked the oil tank to see if there was pressure in it when I took the cap off, there was no pressure.I believe the duckbills most likely are a blob of goo.Where are they located? No Greg,I haven't gotten that far yet.I thought I'd inquire first before tearing it apart.I know it's critical to have the oil lines routed correctly.I did go to the service manual on the saw,but it was very vague. It is possible that someone else worked on the saw previous to me & got the lines wrong, but I don't think that's the issue. When I start the saw it smokes like crazy, then after a min.or two it stops.
