Looking for some parts for the new Super 2 I recently aquired, I came upon a whole engine and noticed something different. The feed line from the oil pump to the oil port at the bar looks like it's a formed piece of metal tubing instead of the typical rubber hose. The two fittings on the ends are certainly different. So I'm wondering if this was a factory installation or if somebody with some skill and some time on their hands modified their saw with some nice plumbing.
It must be an early 70's saw as it's got points ignition and that odd metal ring that holds on the clutch cup/drive sprocket.
Anyone else ever see this? Have one?

I believe those only came on very early XL2's.

I have seen them before but never in person, I agree, think it was only on the XL2's.

Interesting. Have to wonder why it disappeared so fast. A problem with it leaking or just a cost cutting measure?

That I couldn't tell you but I'd lean more toward the cost cutting side- must be far easier to fit a piece of rubber hose than to get that metal piece on!
