Alright yep same super XL 925 lol. It was a runner when I bought it but when I opened the box it was not a runner and no I don't think shipping had anything to do with it I think it was more of an inaccurate description. Anyway I got the saw to finally hit when I put some WD-40 to it on my bench. It will crank and die and after the second time of that gas puked into the air box from somewhere. I am thinking carb so I am planning on rebuilding it, its a tillotson so hopefully I won't have too much problem. My main question is the ignition. I've read some questions on here about them having a 3 piece ignition. Is there anything I should know about this like what is a 3 piece ignition. would that be the same as points, condenser and coil. If so I got that covered if not I'm in new territory. Oh and here is a picture of the tag on it. I don't really know that its a 925 the tag is terrible www.flickr.com/photos/138659658@N05/shares/Fpg693

The 3 piece ignition doesn't have any points or condenser. There is a module under the flywheel, a module outside the flywheel, and another module attached to that one. A conventional 1 piece ignition is also shown in the parts diagram, probably installed on the later saws. UT number 10415A is a Super XL-925.

I was wondering where you got the UT number from and then I clicked on my photo link and I can read the tag much better in the pic than on the saw. Thanks

The ID tag; UT:10415A (Super XL-925) SN:TC1251152 ...built Tuesday,May 5th,1981...[last year built for that UT number]
The Capacitor Discharge Ignition (3 piece) was used on saws prior to Lot C-246,this SXL-925 may have it. It's easily identified with the starter cover removed.

Might be terry canada built designation. I have been working on my two i bought this summer. 1976 and 1980 models. The ignition is very easy to work on, and probably not prone to failure. They can be upgraded to one piece ignition if they have a three piece by replacing back plate and coil. I wanted to keep mine original so i repaired the three piece on mine and am very happy with it so far. Dan

I was thinking that’s what it meant. That’s actually kinda cool I landed on a terry saw by accident.
