i HAVE AN XL2 THAT WAS MY FATHER'S. IT HAS CUT A GREAT DEAL OF WOOD OVER THE YEARS. IT HAS BEEN IN STORAGE FOR A LITTLE OVER 5 YEARS. IT USED TO RUN SO GOOD AND I WANT TO GET IT BACK GOING AGAIN. I HAVE HAVING SOME DIFFICULTY DETERMINING WHAT MODEL TILLOTSON CARB IS ON THIS SAW. THE SERIAL NUMBER FOR THE SAW IS 44715873. I THINK WITH A CARB KIT, NEW FUEL AND OIL HOSES, PLUG AND CLEANING THIS LITTLE SAW WILL GET UP AND GOING ONCE AGAIN. ANY DIRECTION IS APPRECIATED.

Sounds like you've got the general idea. I'd start by putting some fresh gas in it and see if it runs. If it was taken care of when stored, you may get lucky. According to that serial number the saw was built in 1974. Carb kits and fuel hose, plugs, etc. are all still readily available so you shouldn't have too many issues if the saw does need some work.
Post up some pics when you get a chance!

Should be a Walbro HDC carb in that saw. What makes you think its a Tillotson? The carb kit is a K10-HDC for the Walbro. Aside from all that you've mentioned already, one of the essentials for this type saw is the rubber Duckbill Valves. Do a quick search on the forum for that model or it's twin the Super2 and Duckbill, there is a lot already laid out. As Rowdy said, if it was run dry of gas the last time it was put up, you could get lucky.
And if you go here, scroll down to XL-2 and you can download the Illustrated Parts List, courtesy of Leon.
There are several revisions as time went on, not sure which will apply most to your saw.

THE CARB HAS TILLOTSON STAMPED ON ONE SIDE AND EMBOSSED ON THE OTHER. I'LL TRY TO SEND SOME PICS. THE ONE'S I HAVE NOW ARE TOO LARGE TO POST.

Been wanting to get this XL2 going, but life has held me up a bit. Found this bottle of Homelite Exact Mix in my flammable liquids cabinet. Don't know where I got it or how old it is. I should be able to mix this up and use it in my XL2 Automatic shouldn't I? the original ratio for my XL2 is 32:1. this bottle shows 2.6oz per gallon or 50:1, but I'm thinking this is more modern better oil and should work. Anyone have thoughts or experience to share? Also, I have scanned the entire owner's manual. It is too large to post here. Is there a place to drop these types of files to share? Attachments:

It looks like your saw was well taken care of,it's in great shape for being almost 45 yrs.old.Something that everyone should know - use only JASCO approved oil for mixing your fuel.Anything that's not approved like WalMart's brand of 2 cycle oil doesn't give the proper lubrication that your equipment needs.Today's oils are much better at lubricating than they were when your saw was made in 1974.I remember using 30W oil to mix with leaded gas when I first started cutting wood back around '72 or'73. The serial number : 44715873 cannot be used to determine this XL2's date of manufacture..(no 471 days in a year) Typically Tillotson carburetors aren't date stamped to help with a build date. Using Ms.Wilson's sales records the closest I can find is an XL2 SN:44742344 that sold on 03/05/1977. For a carburetor rebuild kit try a Tillotson HK-2B I have a Super 2 that was my dad's, it started my collection and love of old Homelites, which led me to this great forum. Best of luck getting it cutting wood once again !!

Thanks. I was thinking dad bought the saw a little earlier than that, but time confuses the memories. I have rebuilt the carb and hope to have some time this weekend to put it back together and get it going!

I still have the 4th edition manual to send, but I don't have an email address to send it too. Also, I found out why my now working saw wouldn't idle. The s-clutch is broken. Can these still be found?

Yes, they are available on my site, Chainsawlady probably has some and you can definitely find them on Ebay.

Hey guys, I picked up a XL2 Auto # 43010192 that has a Tillotson HK-1. No mistake.. HK-1. I cant find a listing for the carb let alone a kit, (the Tillotson site list starts at HK-2 and goes up from there). I was told an HK-2B should work, But I don't know for sure. Any Ideas?
