I am going to install new bearings and seals in my Super XL Automatic, and I have read in the service manuals that there are some special tools made to install them. I have looked on the internet but I can't find them for sale or any pictures of them, so I was wondering if anyone had information about them so I can use something else to install the parts properly. The tools I am interested in are: 23756 - connecting rod bearing installation plug 23757 - crankcase needle bearing installation plug 23758 - crankcase seal installation plug 23845 - drivecase seal installation plug 23846 - crankshaft installation anvil A-23137 - crankshaft assembly and installation jackscrew
I would appreciate any information you can give me about these tools. Thank you

These tools are fairly ordinary for the most part, all but the last two are stepped cylinders that match the id and od of the bearing or seal to guide on the id and press on the od. The anvil is similar but is flat on the end with a clearance hole in the center to support the parts during assembly. I don't know what the last one is. I could guess but perhaps others know for sure. When I install bearings like that, I heat them to about 250 degrees F in my toaster oven, working quickly, they drop into place by gravity.

I like this thread. The tools used for working on old equipment are as fun to collect as the equipment itself. A lot of them are not needed, but can make it easier at times. I hope others will add to this thread and maybe pin it. Dan

Why am I not shocked you have those Greg... The 23757 would be easy enough to reproduce on a machinist lathe, if only someone posted the dimensions.
What is the jackscrew used for?

I could make those! If anyone has the tools that they can sketch and add accurate dimensions too I can replicate. I'm in the UK so may take a while to get them to you though.

I've been making my own tools for homelite Saws for years, but I work in a custom metal fab shop so it's easy, one hack tho for those that don't know is clutch removal, just take a crescent wrench, drill holes on the tips and weld pins in or jut drop machine screws in, then you have an adjustable clutch tool, and works on the 3 hole ones too, but be warned drilling into tool hardened steel do slow with lots of pressure and oil, and use quantity hss drill bits

I made me a flywheel puller out of some flat bar stock, 2 fine thread nuts and an OTC 3 jaw puller bolt. Drilled 2 holes in the flat stock for bolts to thread into the flywheel. It worked good for my SEZ. I'm going to modify it so I don't have to remove the starter pawl studs.

I got to ask, are those crankshaft alignment used on the flywheel side?
