I would like some help on trouble shooting a sxl-925. It has no spark. ut-10415 serial tb2970583. It has the three piece ignition. Is there some basic checks i can do with ohmmeter? Is there a schematic some one could post, or a way to determine what part has failed? The coil checks in at 2.6k ohm, that seems low to me. Should the module act like a switch to an ohmmeter when turning the flywheel by hand? I have found a broken wire to coil post already on low voltage side. Thank you for any help, i know you guys have considerable knowledge here. Dan

The Homelite Chainsaw Shop Manual 5th Edition Part 1 has the information needed to test the Capacitor Discharge Ignition System on the SXL-925..beginning on page B-23.

Thank you very much! This is exactly what i need. I wonder if my 1980 model has the three piece also, then i could use that to trouble shoot. I hate to monkey with stuff that is working though, i might ruin something. Is the one piece upgrade desirable? I see one for sale at 125 dollar on ebay. Dan

I ran one of my new to me 925's today. Very impressive. The one with no spark needs a module and i am waiting on that. When this goes in should i cover this with some silicone or other? The old one somebody had completely covered connectors. Dan

What is the recommended torque that the flywheel nut should be set at? Do the screws that hold the module under the flywheel require any loctite? Is there supposed to be any lock washer under flywheel nut? Or the module screws? Thanks Dan

The torque value for the flywheel nut is 150 inch pounds, according to the service manual. The parts diagram shows a lock washer under the flywheel nut and lock washers under the four module screws. I think if you use lock washers under the module screws loctite will not be necessary.

Thank you! I have trouble finding the info i want in the service manuals. It seems they kind of generalize all saws together. What page and what manual you find this in? Dan

I got the torque value from the Homelite Fourth Edition Shop Service Manual that I downloaded from Leon's website. Repair procedures for the Super XL 925 begin on page 51, and torque values are given on page 56. The service manuals often group several saws together in the repair sections, but only because the other models are nearly identical.

Ok when the ignition back plate is installed to the crankcase. Is there a seal that goes between the back plate and crankcase? I see an o-ring possibly in the parts diagram, but i cannot confirm in the pictures i look at. I would normally think a gasket would go on there. Dan

Dan Yes, an O-ring is used between the stator and crankcase, part number 67559. Leon has them here: link
