The inside of my XL-922 seems to have an inordinate amount of dry crusties in it. Is there a solution that will remove this? Thanks

Remove, not that I know of. Acetone will soften/loosen it up to where a big screwdriver can be used to scrape most of the goop out. It's not fast or fun, but it usually works.

I was thinking of using acetone and some small smooth river rock and shake it about until my biceps were as large as a politicians lips.

Use something with edges like sharp rock or large hex nuts. The screw driver works well for exposed areas you can reach.

Don't "fill" the tank, leave lots of room to slosh and rattle.
