Ok. I have searched Mike Acres site, scrolled thru Joyse's List, spent literally several hours googling pictures and videos trying to find my new (to me) two saws. Just to keep it better organized, I will create a thread for each. Here is what I know about the first one. I will attached pictures. The Lot Number is G7157, Serial Number is six digits 104444. (FYI: I found a eBay seller in Minnesota parting out the exact same saw SN 104442!) Its this saw with a METAL body. www.acresinternet.com/cscc.nsf/ed1d619968136da688256af40002b8f7/ce0f71a23c6c52da88256c26004cc301?OpenDocumentThe carb says Homelite, and there is no H screw. There is a "dimple" where it should be. Its not broken off, just was never there from day one. I believe its has points. (no spark) Trying to figure out the year, and the HT number and is it just an XL with a metal body? Mike Acres site says these XLs have plastic bodys. I have this exact saw in plastic: XLW, HT-10618A, Sn 7E0900645, 19830 Thanks!! Attachments:

From 73/74 to late 77, Homelite didn’t use serial numbers. You can date your saw by the lot number. Yours was made on 157 day of 1977.

Second number is the UT number (model number). Just use the first 5 digits. The carb has a fixed H jet. There is only a low mix adjustment and idle adjustment screws.

HT-10444 157th day of 1977
wow ...... thank you so much
I have kind of been obsessed with these saws for the last few days ever since I got them.
This saw has almost no time on it by the looks of the drive sprocket at least. I restore Honda CT70s and thats why most of them are not worn out either, points get out of adjustment and they get park till someone like me comes along
Any where to get new points for these engines? I think its the points. The resistance on the coil show 7,000 Ohms. (The other two saws show 2K and 4K) Switch is good, and plug is good.
Thanks!

Holy cow, all my searching I never came across Leon's web site! Thank you so much!
I am up to 5 saws now ....
I live in Alaska, and a guy in my town (Gustavus Alaska) noticed this 1977 XL in the back of my truck, asked me if I wanted his 925. He bought it, he says, new in 1974. He used it to clear trees at the Sitka airport back in the 70s. So I might be up to 6 soon!!!!

Your other saw was made in 1983, on March 31 (day 90). The early saws were metal, the later ones plastic. There are quite a few versions of this saw, some had two triggers, black paint, different oilers.
Nice start on your collection! Better get a hold of that 925. Most folks that have them are pretty proud of them.

Yea, at first he asked me if I could fix his saw, but I had these three saws to go thru, and I told him it would cost more to hire out someone like me to fix it then its worth. If its an EZ fix I will get it going for him, would make him pretty happy. But if its like these guys where I need to pull it all apart, clean out tanks, blow out lines, clean/rebuild carb, filters etc etc I am gunna have to let him know, the labor exceeds the value of the saw. I could just let him come over and fire it up and maybe use it every so often. But I think he is near 80 so dont see him going at it with a full size saw. I have a feeling this is one of those finds where he has the owners manual, sales recite, maybe a case. Will check it out and report back. Heck, I could just let him use one of these XLs if he wants to play around on his property with a saw.

Maybe trade him an XL, they are pretty easy to find, much easier than a 925.
