Ok, so I have an old Red Homelite with what I think is a low serial number. Just trying to get an idea of the year and how early it may have been built. The serial number is A1110103. It has a combination metal tank for the gas and chain lube. I'll try to post pics later. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Hi, Welcome to the House of Homelite!
I don't know which saw you have but it was made in 1979, April 21, 103rd made that day. Is it a Canadian Terry saw?
What is the model or UT number?

Welcome to the House of Homelite. Finland! That is a long walk from here.
It looks to me like they were both made in 1967. That would be according to Joyce's records. She kept records of sales from her shop for 50 years and shared them with us. I don't know what the W on the end means.
Do they both run? The look pretty good in your avatar not a lot of hours on them. If you have trouble be sure to ask for help, someone here will know the answer or how to find it.

Hello
Both saws run good. I have changed fuellines, sparkplugs and done carburetor rebuild to both saws. Sparkplugs and carb rebuild kits are only parts wich you can find from Finland. I am not sure but i think that W means Wico build ignition module?

That Wico might just be right, anyone else know about this W?

I don’t know for sure but Wico sounds logical, I know Homelite has done it in the past with older models. The 17 had the L on the end for HL carb, the Zip’s had the b for brown carbs. The early XL-12 ,Super XL came with both Wico and Phelon ignitions.

My XL500 is stamped P for Phelon so W sounds right for Wico. XL500 ID by CLASEC, on Flickr

By the way there jjk, your English is just fine, better than a lot of folks who grew up in this country. Please do not apologize, I can only handle one language and am always awed by those who can deal with two.
