The 922 was also a popular canadian model . very similar looks to a 925. I can help with used or new parts for those once your saw is identified from all the helpful folks here.

I think the Canadian built XL-922 had a safety lock or chain brake, something the early US made Super XL-925's weren't required to have.

Iknow a few guys that sold them up here .. Lots were used by forestry. I have had many of them both ways.

Thank you so much for all the response. Here is the story... that I know. My Dad bought the saw used in the late 1960's. He used it in the woods for several years before getting into the trucking business. I remember the saw sitting in a shed and then in the attic of the garage until I was about 14 years old (I'm 44 now). He told me it was seized up. I decided one day while he was at work I would tear it apart. As soon as a took off the recoil I found the problem. The rope was wrapped around everything. I straighten it out and put it back together. Put some gas in it and it fired up an the third pull. It had sat for at least 15 years. When he got home I showed him I got his saw running to say the least it may have been the happiest I had ever seen him. We used the saw on and off for a couple years and then it sat for several years. I tried to fire it up but it had lost spark. Compression is good, so if I get spark, change fuel lines and clean the carb it will run again!!

The UT number comes back as a Super XL-925, the handle support and handle bar look to be off an older multicolored saw. You may have a XL-925 with XL 850 parts, the rubber grips are also much later.

I would not be surprised if the saw was built from several parts over the years. We had a guy by the name of Jim McHale in Port Leyden, NY who worked on Homelites. I remember my dad taking his saws there for parts. You had to climb over the saws, but he new his stuff. He also use to have a soda machine that was 25 cents for a glass bottle. I would beg a quarter off my mom as we would set in the truck waiting for dad to come out.

That explains some of the weirdness of the saw. My dad has always told me it was a 850 with a 925 covers. I assumed that he meant it had a side covers off a 925, but maybe the guy who worked on his saws took a blown up 925 and put some of his 850 parts in it. My dad is still alive but his memory is shot. Maybe I will try to find out what was done. I found a similar ignition setup on ebay for $40. I may give it a try. Does the price seam fair to you guys. It is said to be good tested unit. Thanks

I think your dad was correct in calling it an XL-850 with some parts changed (throttle handle, covers, etc).
The ignition parts : coil-63998,switch and condenser-64000,backplate-A-64023..in pic 2 above, are shown in the XL-850 IPL_24020_24384_2......SXL-925-922 show a different setup.
Best of luck with your project.
