From seeing the pictures of yours it looks identical to the 17 that I had. That is what the parts are from. I wonder it just changed names to match the other saws in the line. If I am not mistaken the seven stood for seven horsepower and the twenty for twenty inch bar. One would have to hit the IPL’s to see if anything had changed. I thought the 20 was the weight

The Homelite Chainsaw Service Manual 1st Edition 1961 has details of interest that cover the 4-20.
ex: Model 4-20 replaced Model 17L in production September,1957 Six-digit serial number models have Wico Magnetos

Thank you onlyhomelites and undee70ss for providing these manuals !

I thought the first number was the horsepower and the second was the weight too.

I think the regular 17 had the brown carb and the 17L had the HL carb. My Zip just missed the brown carb date and it has the HL carb, much easier to find parts for, plus I have the spare off the 17L. I am still learning about these old ones. They are a little out of my comfort zone of the Xl-12 Super XL family.

That's entirely possible and rings a fairly vague bell, somewhere off deep in the black forest of my memory. Homelite has very often made a point of exclaiming the low weight of their saws relative to power.
A quick check on the Acres site and the 5-30 was stated at 5.5 hp & 30 lbs! Then the 6-22 is 5.6hp (6 rounded up...) and 22 lbs. but then there is the 5-63 and a 6-63 in between that, on the Acres site have no info and, I seriously hope, couldn't be 63lbs. Though we may be able to consider them as fliers. The 7-19 & the 8-29 continue to ring true... I think you guys nailed it.

I noticed when I first looked at Mike Acres site for the 4-20 that it listed both the Brown & Tilly carbs, which made me cringe since I've never even heard of Brown carbs before. I've not dug into it yet but it looks like the HL that is on there, thankfully.

5-63 and 6-63 I believe 5hp 1963 and 6hp 1963. Looks like they were one year models. I'm sure by the photos these were rebadged from or to other models
