Anybody have any first-hand experience? There's one for sale about 30 miles up the road from me. They're asking $200 could pry get them down a little bit from there. From what I can see online that appears to be a good price.

Make sure it has compression and piston looks good. Pistons and cylinders are almost impossible to find.

The MP-88 is based on the Homelite 8800, so they are a stout MP saw. But as Dan and Greg have already noted, if it needs engine or ignition parts, it's not worth much more than the scrap fee.

Well guys I had to pass on this one. It was "running when stored" which we all know how that goes. Since it was about an hour away with traffic I communicated via e-mail, the gentleman was not really happy about my requests to pull the plug and exhaust to inspect before buying and on top of that he was firm on the price and I was just not willing to take the risk. Will be keeping my eyes out though

On these MP's saws, can they be converted to a chains saw without major work. Or, if you got lucky and found one used a couple times and has been in the garage for years, would the P/C be a candidate for a swap on a chainsaw?

would the P/C be a candidate for a swap on a chainsaw? I believe the MP uses a thick ring piston, CS uses a thin ring piston. Yes, the PC could be used but MP saws usually had a hard life.

You could get the MP cheap and convert a saw with the MP parts = new MP!
