Dear Forum!
I`m trying to restore a vintage homelite chainsaw! (Homelite XL-900)! I would like to know if anyone could tell me. which bar (18" -20" 3/8) would fit to my machine! The old bar was a homelite Perma_Hard TIP 20" 3/8 with 1,9 Gauge! I didn`get any bar in Austria and Germany, which fits for this old Homelite! (I´ m living in a little village near Vienna the capital of Austria)
thanks a lot
Alex

Welcome to the House of Homelite Alex. Glad you stopped by. I can't help much with your request but there will certainly be someone along soon who can. You might want to personal message chainsawlady, she has a bunch of new original Homelite bars and she knows what they fit.

Welcome. Any pics of your saw? You can find a bar here (PT20381-G5). These are in .050 gauge.

The Problem ist that the bar, which was mounted, could not be the original one! Homelite new perms-hard tip 20" gauge 1.9 mm.! The slot for fixing the bar is about 7,7 cm long height about 9,7mm., though the screws are 7,88 mm. The chain at least was 1,3mm.!! I wonder that the guy who sold me the saw just buy some use bar put on a cheap new chain and than sold it!🕵 So would like to know which bar was there originally mounted or which bar would fit from the newer Oregon series, because most of them I will get in Austria or in Germany too! (Is much cheaper because of shipping costs about 50 USD to Vienna!)
kind regards
Alex p.s. I will take some Pics tomorrow and put it in the forum (time delay it is now 20 minutes past nine p.m. in Vienna!

If my Oregon reference book here is correct (older version), it calls for the 200RNDD196 20" bar. For chain the book calls for a #72 oregon chain w/ 70 drive links (Oregon part 72LGX070G). There is also a 24" bar & chain listed, parts 240RNDD196 and 72LGX081G respectively.
Not sure on availability to your neck of the woods but at least some numbers to play with.

Sounds like someone put a .050 gauge chain on a .063 gauge bar that’s just about wore out as 1.9mm is almost .075.

Welcome Alex. I put a 30 inch bar and chain combo on my XL924. Got it off Ebay. It's a pattern 14 bar. Just checked and they have a 24" Oregon bar and chain combo for $99. These are brand new, not old,Joe.

Thanks a lot for this information! Before I try to find those Oregon bars or a replacement for them I will take some pics and try to put it on the board, because maybe only the cover is from Xl-900?! As I couldn't sleep last night I just went through the board, looking the different types of vintage homelite saws! My decision afterwards: take some Pics especially with the fabrication number and hope that someone figures out, which model could it be!
kind regards
Alex

That is a good plan Alex. If there is doubt about the model, post up pictures and any numbers you find on the saw. This group will be able to identify exactly what you have. XL-900 may be enough to get a bar and chain to fit but it would be better to really know what you have.

The pics are on the board! No more panic about the model, because the typeblade says also XL-900, and to change this might be difficult! I also found several companies in USA, who offer the suggested bar (including ebay)! I informed also a company in Upper Austria to check if they have possible replacements, because oregon bars with identic part-numbers doesn`t exist in Austria, Germany maybe in Europe! I put the pics on Google Drive and a link in the forum at HoH Help Center!
Thanks a Lot!
