I have an XL and an LX 30 Bandit. The Bandit starter rope broke and looks like cheap 1/8” rope. The XL has 5/32” I believe. According to the IPL for the Bandit it has #4 rope which I believe is 1/8 but may be wrong. I think I read where the number 4 or #5 etc that homelite used is the same as say 4/32 (1/8) or 5/32 etc. anyway question is which is the correct size for these saws and is there a preferred brand?

What vintage XL? Oiler ones take 34 inches of “4” rope.

Somewhere here there is a chart of what size rope is what size. I think it is 1/32 per as you suggest, #4 would be 1/8. I think any real starter rope should be fine, it is much harder and denser than ordinary rope - rope. Do you need that KW to do high speed logging?

“Do you need that KW to do high speed logging”
Can’t think of anything better for that at the moment...as long as Bandit is cutting the path
