Hi all!!
I'm new to this board and very new to repairing chainsaws. I just rebuilt the carb and replace the fuel and oil lines and duck valves on an old XL2 auto with no model or serial number my dad bought in the 70's. It seems to be running good after all that to my great surprise!!!
My question is with a new chain. The number on the bar is PT12371-B4. Digging through some of the threads on this site I learned that it is a 12inch laminated sprocket bar with 3/8 low profile pitch and is .050 gauge. How do I determine the number of links this chain should have? I have two old chains but they each seem to be a little different from one another. One has larger (cutters?) than the other but other than that look alike.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Redeye

PT12371-B4 takes 48 drive links. The cutters may look different depending on who made the chain and type of cutter ( ie... chisel, semi chisel etc...)

It’s also possible the chain with the larger cutters is not 3/8 lo pro, but regular 3/8 and if so would not fit your saw.

Welcome to the House of Homelite! You have come to the right place and it looks like you got some good information. Undee knows his stuff. There is a huge amount of stuff on chains here: www.baileysonline.com/Chainsaw-Chain/There should be a number on the drive tangs of the chains that will tell you most of what you need to know about the chains themselves, like if they will fit. There would still be questions about the cutters but there does not seem to be a chart with numbers for many types. Stick around, someone else, besides undee, who knows more than me will be along.
