Had a CL ad come up today fairly close to home so jumped on it, maybe a little fast but the price was right, mostly.
One of the saws was a Super EZ Auto which after closer examination, may be a bit of a Franken-saw. It's got a UT# which still confound me and a serial # that's a bit different. Hopefully someone can help with dating it, or at least a casual, no strings attached relationship .

I may pull the carb tomorrow and see what the date is on that.
The ad stated that there was a problem with the starter. When I met the guy in a parking lot, he had the saws and stuff and the recoil spring was out loose, but not damaged. When I got it home and looked closer, I was a little set off that I hadn't noticed this saw has a plastic starter/recoil cover, not the cool chromed grill that they usually have & one of my favorite features of that model. I wasn't even aware they made the Super EZ Auto with any plastic but started wondering if he couldn't fix it because it's the wrong one for this saw, scavenged from a newer model. Found a thread on this board that said about the air filter cover went to plastic first, then the starter cover but my air filter cover is still the magnesium version. I will definetely be looking to do away with the plastic if an older version will fit. but there may be other issues and this may become a parts saw.

The flywheel is a Phelon but it has the dreaded light blue Wico coil on it, which has a bit of metallic based epoxy smeared over most of one end. Maybe the result of whatever caused the hopefully not original starter cover to be installed. Not sure where that's going to go but we'll see.

He supposedly had this at a saw shop that couldn't get it running and when I turned the flywheel by hand to see what the compression was like, the flywheel is hitting the coil.
The other saw and one of the 3 spare bars that came with may be the real prize from this lot, but the "other" saw will have it's own, non-Homelite thread. It's uh, uhm..., well shit, it's... yellow.
