Yea, not sure if there was anything unique about "Silastic", but I assume it was nothing more than just a brand of RTV silicone. Everybody at AS always says use Yamabond which is really just ThreeBond 1104 (which has now been replaced with 1194). I usually just use Permatex Ultra-Black RTV and haven't had any problems with it.

That's what they saw on AS. I've personally never bought any. They say that all the bike shops (Suzuki, Honda, etc.) have their own re-branded version of the same stuff. Only other thing worth noting is it supposedly sets up pretty fast. Not sure of the details, but I think I remember like within 5 minutes, so once applied you need to work kinda fast.

Im gonna bet your local Yamaha Dealer has Yamabond ;D Otherwise I would bet any automotive store (O'reilly's, Napa, etc) Would have something very similar that would do the job just as well.

I've been using Permatex MotoSeal Ultimate Gasket Maker (Grey). Item #29132 in the 2.7Fl. Oz tube. This product is resistant to gasoline and designed to be used on crank case halves. Most of the silicone gasket sealers state that they are not to be used if they come in contact with gasoline (fine print on the back of the tube that you will need a microscope to read). I bought this at a local automotive supply (NAPA I think).
Hope this helps, Mark
