A Phelon flywheel won't properly trigger a Wico coil and vice-versa. Best way to tell what you have is to look at the flywheel on top...you'll either see Phelon or Wico/Prestolite.

I believe that there were two different mfgrs.of the coils - Wico & Phelon. If you have the Wico flywheel then you'll also have the Wico coil.If you have the Phelon flywheel then you'll have the Phelon coil as well. You cannot interchange parts. For example:If you have a Wico flywheel you can't put a Phelon coil on & expect it to work. The same goes for the Phelon flywheel & coil. They must be matched. If you take your coil off you should be able to tell what make it is by finding some writing somewhere on it,it'll be quite small. The coil will have to be very clean too.
