Well, here's karma biting me in the butt after having ONE good carb rebuild. This is what normally happens to me.I took the carb off yesterday & rebuilt i.There's one thing though that I was afraid of - when I went to replace the metering gasket it tore off in pieces.Part of it stuck to the plate, but most of it stuck in the carb.I did my best to try to get everything out,but apparently that carb is shot.I've got another carb that's in good shape, all I need to do is transfer over the carb kit. The saw will fire up on prime, but dies out quickly. Then if I let the saw set a minute,it'll try to fire again, but dies out right away.It acts like it's starving for fuel. The line is good & so is the filter.I've got another carb that had the metering plate stuck in it & I had to use brake cleaner to get it loosened up so the plate would come off. That carb is going on my old blue EZ.I suppose I'll have the same problem wth that carb too.

How can I test it,blow into the cap? It's a red cap & there's no place to put a duck bill.

Just asking but are the gasket / diaphragm orders right on both sides?
The duckbill in the fuel cap is behind that sintered bronze plug in the side of the cap. You need to pry that out carefully with an awl or an ice pick. There's groove in the plug channel to let you get at the plug.

The duck bill was turned to black goo.I cleaned it out with brakle cleaner, then I put the cap back in with no duck bill & I got the same results. It "runs"like it did before I rebuilt ther carb.I'm taking the carb off tomorrow & putting the other one on thast I know is clean & will work.I guess I'm going to need another carb,if I can even find one. 20180323_202333 by edju1958, on Flickr 20180323_202252 by edju1958, on Flickr 20180323_202224 by edju1958, on Flickr

I found out why the carb wouldn't work after I rebuilt it - apparently I have to put the gaskets back on in the correct order. As soon as I took the top cover off I had an"ah ha"moment.I had those two gaskets reversed.I put them back in the correct order & the saw runs like a champ. This saw has one of those infamous blue ignition modules on it.I played with it off & on - one time it'd have spark, the next time it wouldn't.So I baked it -200 degrees for 2 hrs. When I took it from the oven it was nice'n tender, let it cool & put It on the saw.It works good now with a baked module & a rebuilt carb.Three SEZ's down, two to go plus one EZ.The blue EZ is almost ready to go.I put the rebuilt carb on it & put a grommet in where the line goes into the tank. What a job that was.I'm waiting on my fuel filters to come in.I ordered ten, probably should've ordered twenty.Lol
