I found a 36" belt-drive bar and a loop of NOS 1/2" chipper chain that matched it. I put it on the 5-30-N since the bar wouldn't have been out of it's league. Not sure that I want to run it in wood and risk snapping the original belt. I've got a NOS belt for my 20MCS when I decide to get around to building it but it's narrower than the 5-30-N belt which is the same width as the 7-29 & 8-29. youtu.be/2qq9TkiENjc

NICE! What is that kick stand bracket? Is that something you made or an old accessory? It pretty cool too.

I find it hard to believe that there isn't a replacement belt out there for the Homelite saws that require them.I go to a Gates supply store where they sell just about everything -- belts, oil filters, hydraulic hoses & fittings, etc. In over 30 yrs.that I've been going there, there was only one time that they couldn't match up a replacement belt,& that was on a Massey Ferguson garden tractor that I had - it was a drive belt as I recall.Sometimes we have to think outside the box.

Several people have worked on this belt problem over the years. As I understand it, the pitch of the belt is not used on anything else. Tooling up for belts is expensive, it has been done for one or two models, not all.

It's the same situation I ran into then with the Massey belt.It was a special made item & not enough demand to produce as an OEM.

Yes it's true, there is no current standard replacement for the belt. It had been the subject of many threads by guessers However it was a mix of standards that is now obsolete. pastawon had them made a short while back and he offered them everywhere to recoup the cost of getting the batch made by gates. He is an early homelite fan on Long Island NY. I bought one for my 5-30 and thank him again for his effort in this matter. I think he had some for the earlier/narrower belt also.

The research lab for Ultimax Performance Belts is nearby. I've thought about giving them a project.

Have a few thousand bux to spare??? You might ask pastawon if he has any new belts left. Gates in England seems to be where they made the new tooling and belts though I think he contracted through the US headquarters/office. This only happened a few years ago... Just measured my early 5-30 SN is 418307, belt is 1" wide. Don't know how wide the late model ones are.

Jeez, you'd think I could have figured that out. I have two different ones...

There's an industrial machine that uses the exact size and width of the 26LCS belt. I read a thread somewhere where someone listed several sources but now I can't find it. I was sure that I saved it somewhere but can't find it right now.

I put it in some wood to check it out. I leaned on it pretty hard toward the end and made some good sized noodles. youtu.be/W_sjqSGbpR4
